How are Databricks Apps billed?
Databricks charges for an app’s provisioned compute while it runs. The amount depends on capacity and running time, not simply how many people open it. See the Databricks Apps billing overview.
An app may also use a SQL warehouse, a Lakebase database or other services. Review those resources separately when estimating the full application cost.
Published Databricks Apps rates
Example list-rate estimate using $0.75 per DBU. App capacity and running time determine DBU consumption.
| App size | Usage rate | Reference compute cost | Reference cost per 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Medium | 0.5 DBU / hour | $0.375 / hour | $270 |
| Large | 1 DBU / hour | $0.75 / hour | $540 |
| XLarge | 3 DBU / hour | $2.25 / hour | $1,620 |
Monthly figures assume one app runs continuously for 30 days (720 hours), calculated from the $0.75 / DBU list rate checked Oct 6, 2026. Cloud, region, contract and promotional terms may change the amount. App dependencies such as SQL warehouses and Lakebase are billed separately.

How to check app spending
- Connect FinOpsWay and open Apps in Databricks.
- Read the cost beside the app name and check the reporting period.
- Review its running status and supporting resources. Investigate test apps left running when they are no longer needed.
Example: The screenshot shows stopped apps with recorded costs. Stopping an app does not erase the cost of the hours it already ran.
Common questions
Does stopping the app stop every related charge?
It stops the app’s compute charges. A database or warehouse used by the app has its own lifecycle. Check each dependency separately. Databricks documents app states here.
Why is the number different from my invoice?
FinOpsWay uses available billing data and does not apply private contract discounts. Recent usage can also arrive later. Use the cost methodology when comparing totals.
